Elly Glass - The Stokey Doula

Hello, I am a mum of one (so far) and live in Stoke Newington, Hackney with my family and our animals! I provide doula support to people going through fertility treatment, pregnancy and birth, and during the postpartum period. I am also a registered KG Hypnobirthing teacher and provide group and private courses (please see my website for more info).

I came to train as a doula after the birth of my daughter. Going through fertility treatment and loss, I didn’t know if I would ever be lucky enough to carry a child and give birth. Once it was a reality, I realised more than ever how precious and wonderful it is, and I wanted to relive it every day! I also felt a need to provide support to those going through what I had been through.

During pregnancy, I was very conscious of the importance of feeling empowered, particularly as it had felt that so much power had been taken away during fertility treatment. I made it my aim to know as much as possible and to challenge attempts to pigeon-hole me into having a birth that took no account of my preferences or feelings. Having been able to do this for myself, I wanted to be able to help others to also. Coming from a human rights law background, advocating on behalf of my clients and supporting them from life-changing moments has long been an important part of my own life.

For clients who are going or who have gone through fertility treatment or loss, I recognise that each of our journeys are different but perhaps there is some shared experience that means I can appreciate the potential challenges or complexities that it can bring to life, and to pregnancy if it happens.

For birth clients, my role is to assist you to have the tools and support you need to feel that you can make the right decisions for your individual circumstances, no matter what those might be.

For post-natal clients, the days and weeks after birth are ones to be protected – my role is to help ease your transition into parenthood (whether for the first time or whether you have done it all before).
