Personal Introduction:

Hi, I’m Becca. I’m a birth doula and breastfeeding supporter based in BECKENHAM and South East London. I’m a former midwife but now mum to 3 amazing boys, babywearing and sling library consultant, antenatal educator and pregnancy and birth doula.
I live in Beckenham with my husband and 3 young sons. I am a warm and friendly person who loves nothing more than a good old chat over a cup of tea. I spend lots of time just hanging out with friends and family. I am particularly fond of a good pub lunch. I love wildlife and dream of one day moving to the country and owning a herd of Alpacas.
I have always been fascinated by pregnancy, birth and babies and was thrilled when I became a midwife in 2007. I worked in a variety of settings over 12 years, but my passion during this time was working as a caseload midwife providing continuity of care to parents to be, throughout their whole pregnancy, their birth and postnatally. I absolutely loved helping people take control of their pregnancies and supporting them in their journey to parenthood. I have a particular interest in sharing information and empowering families to make their own choices.
Sadly I found that balancing being a mum of 3 small people and working within a highly stressed NHS service quite a challenge and I was not able to provide the kind of support I would like or that I feel women deserve. So I made the difficult decision stop practicing as a midwife. However I am so excited that this decision has led me to become a doula instead. I am now a mentored birth doula with Nurturing Birth and am so excited to be able to truly nurture families and provide emotional and practical support through their entire pregnancy and birth journey.
I had 3 very different births myself in hospital and at home but when I had my first son I had a birth experience which was not quite how I imagined or hoped for and was overwhelmed by how challenging it was having a newborn to care for. However I had such fabulous support from my midwives that I look back on the experience very positively. I am convinced that without support I would have found things very different. I am so grateful to have been well prepared, well informed and supported by my midwives and third time round by my amazing doula as well that I am keen to pass that on by empowering other women to feel the same way.
Birth and new babies can be unpredictable and things don’t always go exactly as we imagine but I believe that by feeling truly listened to, supported and respected you can feel in control and able to make positive choices for your pregnancy and birth experience.
My role as your doula is to listen to you, signpost you to information and evidence to help you make choices, help you feel prepared for your birth and new baby and to provide compassionate, unbiased and continuous emotional and practical support to you during your birth – however and wherever you want that to be.

"Becca was what I would call a lovely reliable safe pair of hands to support us not only through birth but the latter parts of our pregnancy and early postnatal period. She is very calm, comforting, knowledgable and supportive. As it was my second labour I really knew what I wanted to achieve and my husband is fantastic but slightly overwhelmed in a birth situation whereas Becca loves birth, babies, pregnancy and supporting women at this precious time. I wanted some continuity and familiar faces around me in an ever changing maternity services world and the support that becca gave both me and my husband was invaluable. Especially as my husband couldn’t always be with me and it gave him an opportunity to arrange childcare for our eldest, have a few breaks all in the knowledge I was continuously supported by the same wonderful and safe person. She helped encourage me through my birth plan and spent longer talking things through with me when I needed a little time, she knew when to step forward and step back and took some incredible first moment photos for us which we will cherish forever. I cannot recommend getting a doula enough and especially Becca, she is the perfect choice and very adaptable to supporting you in the type of birth you would like" - Melanie

“ Pre birth Rebecca was always available to answer any questions I had and is incredibly knowledgeable. She was generous with her availability. One particular highlight is a gorgeous reflexology foot massage she gave me with essential oils when I was overdue. Sadly due to Covid Rebecca wasn’t able to join us in the hospital and I went in for an induction so there was no labouring at home, and then the whole thing happened very fast. However, she did stay in touch via whatsapp to check up on me.
Rebecca’s been so helpful since the birth. She’s regularly visited me and helped me with breast feeding, she’s been a great source of support when I’ve felt overwhelmed and recommended a variety of helpful things to support me with painful nipples and other challenges. I very much feel listened to and understood, and I feel like I can say anything to Rebecca without worrying about feeling judged or causing offence.
I’m not sure how I would have survived this experience without Rebecca” - Miranda
